As a Gen-Ewe-IneAlaskan - I must say your urban version of the Iditarod is certainly impressive - Would you consider sending some of your best teams up here for the actual race? All the alpo and frozen fish chunks your puppies can eat!!

but seriously - this is f-in hilarious - keep up the good work. :)

I think we should form an Urban Iditarod team and join in this great race Jess. Without the alpo and fish chunks of course. ARF ARF

We also do the Idiotarod in NYC the same day as the start of the Iditarod in Alaska.

I've done the SF and NYC versions. I do have to say, the SF version is a BREEZE compared to running across the brooklyn bridge when its zero degrees out and youre trying to wear a costume and there are people dressed like butchers flailing cleavers and hurling raw meat at you.

Wow, is it just me or is there a serious lack of police interest in the NYC Iditarod? Apparently, this year's SF Iditarod (2005) was totally inundated with them, and they rushed and funneled the group and didn't allow for rest stops. And they would never allow anything like your cart pile to happen, which looks freakin' hilarious.

I have no idea how to keep the cops at bay. They are just simply out of control here.

Basically, the police just arent notified of the route or the date. Rest stops are in bars (that are overflowing). At which time my team will zip tie everyones carts to eachother so we can get a head start.

Oh yes, the cart pile. Um, we got in trouble for that one.

I remember there being plenty of rest stops during the run. I know teams that were lagging didn't have much rest time. As far as cops though there were plenty, but they mostly seemed to be "protecting" us from causing too much trouble with real traffic.

Hm... it never seemed to be a problem in the past. Nor has the route. I don't know what has changed or why, but I was sad to hear about the police's actions this year. Kinda glad, kinda sad I didn't make it. Perhaps '06 for me.
